Drawing inspiration from the fiery intensity of a volcanic eruption, I wanted to shift my focus from the calm and serene aspects of nature like the sky and ocean to the raw, untamed energy of the earth. The colours that immediately came to mind were a mix of orange and red to represent molten lava, grey to symbolise the ash clouds, and black to depict the charred remains of an eruption. This colour palette felt both dynamic and challenging, offering an exciting opportunity to experiment with new arrangements that reflect the chaotic beauty of this natural phenomenon.
In designing this piece, I visualised the scene of an eruption, arranging the beads to mimic the layers of a volcanic event. I placed the orange and red beads at the top to represent the fiery explosion of lava, surrounded them with grey beads to simulate the swirling ash, and anchored the design with black beads at the bottom to reflect the scorched aftermath. This layered arrangement aimed to capture the eruption’s story, giving the bracelet a bold and dramatic look.
Upon completing the design, I found the combination of colours striking, but I began to notice that the black beads at the base felt a bit overpowering. They seemed to dominate the overall aesthetic, slightly detracting from the vibrant interplay of orange and red at the top. While this imbalance wasn’t entirely unwelcome, it added a grounding effect to the design, it did make me reconsider how much black to incorporate in future iterations. Perhaps reducing the black or integrating more grey as a transition could create a more balanced piece.

Despite these minor adjustments, I found the overall process highly rewarding. This bracelet stands out as a stark departure from my previous, more harmonious nature-inspired designs. It’s bold, daring, and encapsulates the unpredictable beauty of volcanic eruptions. This experiment also opens up possibilities for further exploration of chaotic and contrasting colour schemes, pushing the boundaries of my creativity.
CONCLUSION
This volcanic eruption inspired bracelet is a testament to the power of nature’s untamed forces and my willingness to explore new creative horizons. While the design is not without its imperfections, it captures the essence of its inspiration and challenges my usual approach to balance and colour harmony. Moving forward, I plan to refine this concept, experimenting with subtler transitions and potentially introducing new materials to enhance the fiery aesthetic. This piece marks the beginning of a new chapter in my design journey, where bold contrasts and dramatic themes take centre stage.
