When I opened my first bead-making kit, I was excited to get started right away, but I hit an unexpected setback. The kit included beads in seven different sizes ranging from 3mm to 12mm but to my disappointment, the quantities of the larger beads (6mm, 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm) were insufficient to create the bracelet I had envisioned. These larger sizes were exactly what I had wanted to experiment with, while the smaller beads, though intricate, didn’t quite fit my creative vision. As a result, my bead-making journey had to be temporarily paused.
Despite this setback, I learned some valuable lessons. First, I confirmed that I’m more drawn to the larger bead sizes (6mm to 12mm), which offer the perfect balance between detail and presence for the kind of designs I want to create. Interestingly, when comparing the beads to my Thomas Sabo bracelet, I noticed that the beads from my kit didn’t match the custom sizes used in the bracelet, which seemed to be between 5mm and 6mm. This opened up the possibility that I may need to explore custom bead sizing in the future to perfect my designs. Moving forward, I’ll be purchasing additional beads in my preferred sizes and colours to continue my project, along with a larger organiser to accommodate my growing collection.
CONSLUSION
Although this setback slowed my initial progress, it helped clarify the direction I want to take in my bead making journey. It gave me a better understanding of the materials I want to work with and the possibility of custom design in the future. With this newfound knowledge, I’m excited to move forward and dive deeper into my creative process.
