Continuing with a nature inspired theme, I decided to focus on the ocean as my next source of inspiration. The ocean has quickly become a favourite for me due to its vast depth, beauty, and mystery. For this particular design, I wanted to incorporate the concept of a trident, a symbol often tied to oceanic mythology. My inspiration stemmed from King Triton in The Little Mermaid. His trident, accented with gold, paired with the rich blue tones of his gills and the vibrant shades of the surrounding ocean, made for a compelling starting point. The ocean in the animation was always depicted as clear, colourful, and full of life, which I hoped to translate into this bracelet design.
To bring this idea to life, I started with gold beads to represent the trident’s striking brilliance. I then combined two distinct shades of blue, one lighter and brighter to symbolise the ocean’s surface, and a slightly deeper blue to reflect its mysterious depths. This duality in blues captures the movement and layers of the sea, adding more dimension to the piece. The gold accents not only bring contrast but also a touch of elegance and a nod to the royal theme surrounding King Triton. The resulting design felt balanced, with the gold breaking up the blues while still maintaining a cohesive ocean inspired look.
This project sparked a new thought process for me. Typically, I focus on main characters when drawing inspiration, as they are easy to identify and resonate with many people. However, King Triton, a supporting character, proved to be just as inspiring. This made me realise that many individuals connect deeply with characters outside the protagonist, ones who often carry unique designs, colours, and traits that could influence future pieces. I began to consider the possibility of creating an entire collection inspired by supporting characters from movies or anime, highlighting their overlooked beauty and significance.
As I finished this design, I felt satisfied with how the gold and blue tones came together. It successfully embodied the essence of the ocean while adding a subtle tribute to King Triton’s character. Moving forward, I’m excited to explore other non-protagonist characters and expand on the ocean theme, potentially drawing from various animated and cinematic works. This design serves as a reminder that inspiration can come from unexpected places, and by looking beyond the obvious, I can discover endless creative opportunities.
CONCLUSION
This bracelet marked a step toward exploring deeper narratives and overlooked details in my designs. The ocean inspired theme, enriched by gold and blue tones, offers a fresh perspective on character-driven creations. I look forward to refining this idea further, as it opens the door for collections that are both meaningful and unique.
