Inspired by my previous nature themed bracelet design, I wanted to dive back into that category, this time exploring what lies beneath the surface. Rather than focus on flowers and greenery, I thought about the mysteries hidden within the ocean depths. Dark blue beads caught my attention, so deep in colour that they almost appeared black, and instantly reminded me of the dark, unknown world beneath the waves. Initially, I considered a single colour bracelet using these beads alone, but I realised that would lack the creativity and intrigue I wanted to capture. After some experimentation, I found a complementary light blue bead, which worked perfectly with the dark blue and added depth to the piece. This discovery led me to the concept of an ocean inspired design, evoking the mesmerising and mysterious beauty of the sea.
My fascination with the ocean is a blend of awe and a bit of trepidation, I love its scenery but am wary of the unknown creatures it harbours. Shark movies have definitely added to this sense of wonder and fear. Despite that, I know that one day I’ll face my curiosity head on and try scuba diving, immersing myself in that hidden world. The ocean, for me, carries three main colours in my mind, the almost black dark blue of the deep, the lighter blue near the surface, and the shafts of light that penetrate from above. This colour palette guided me as I began to build the bracelet, aiming to convey the unique character of the ocean’s depths, a world rarely seen but often imagined.
I used the dark blue as the primary colour in the design, symbolising the depth of the ocean where sunlight fades away. To represent the sunlight hitting the water’s surface, I added the light blue beads, adding a touch of brightness and contrast. The final touch came from a few silver shiny spacer beads, chosen to mimic the beams of light piercing through the water. I opted for silver over gold, as I felt gold might overpower the other colours, while silver harmonised better with the cool tones of the blues. With this balanced combination, I created a design that reflects both the mystery and beauty of the sea. I was thrilled with how it turned out, capturing the look and feel of an oceanic journey on the wrist.
The process of designing this piece has sparked ideas for future nature inspired creations. I’d love to craft a design inspired by the sky or even outer space, exploring themes of clouds or stars. There are endless ways to represent natural elements through different colours and materials, and each one has its own story to tell. Reflecting on this journey, I am reminded that nature holds endless inspiration, from the earth to the sea and beyond.
CONCLUSION
This ocean inspired bracelet is a testament to the mystery and beauty hidden within nature, drawing from deep blues and shimmering silvers to capture the unknown. This design marks a new chapter in my work, as I delve deeper into themes that resonate personally with me. Each bracelet serves as a canvas for an inspired story, and I look forward to seeing where my creativity leads me next.
