Halloween has always fascinated me as a holiday filled with creativity and a bit of mystery. The day is one that remembers the dead but also celebrates self-expression, especially for children. Dressing up as a favourite character offers a chance to step outside one’s comfort zone, even for someone more introverted, like me. Over the years, I’ve admired how people transform themselves through costumes and decorations, bringing a mix of humour and spookiness into the season. Inspired by this energy, I wanted to create a Halloween themed bracelet that captured these elements in my own way.
For this bracelet, I knew it had to embody Halloween’s most iconic symbol, the pumpkin. Growing up, I didn’t see many pumpkins around, but their vivid orange glow always stood out in movies and seasonal decor. Starting with an orange base, I wanted to represent the feel of Halloween without following the typical black and orange colour scheme. I chose to incorporate black for the mysterious night, red for the haunting feel of blood, and yellow to signify the warm, flickering glow from a candle lit pumpkin. I considered adding dark blue and green to represent the eerie night sky and mossy grounds, but I realised that too many colours could detract from the Halloween theme.
Upon completing the bracelet, I was initially uncertain if it fully embodied Halloween as I had envisioned. However, I reminded myself that creativity often involves experimenting and pushing through doubt. Completing the piece regardless of how perfectly it matched my vision was essential for growth. This Halloween bracelet has taught me to appreciate my design process and embrace each project as a learning experience.
CONCLUSION
Looking forward, this piece offers a foundation to build on in the future. Next Halloween, I’ll be able to reflect on this design and see how far my style and creativity have come. Each attempt, successful or not, brings me closer to refining my approach and discovering new ways to express holiday themes in my jewellery.
